Ranking your website to the top of search engine requires a high quality of user experience. And that means that your website should have no broken links. As your website grows, chances are, some of its URL will have to be changed. Which means that there will be a need to be a change in the navigation flow. Having broken links is not good for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and that’s the importance of plugins like Quick Page/Post Redirect.

1. What motivated you to develop your plugin?
I needed a simple way to make a URL temporarily redirect to a different one. There were no easy plugins to do this and it just needed to be a quick and simple thing – not a huge undertaking.
2. Describe your plugin and explain to our readers how it will benefit their website?
The plugin is designed to redirect pages, posts or custom post types to another location. It makes it very simple to point the user to the right place. It is also great for sites that have recently been converted to WordPress, as you can add the old URL and the place where the new URL would be found – and then your users will have no broken links.
3. What differentiates your plugin from others in the same category?
There are actually only a handful of redirect plugins out there. Some are good, but are very complex to use. The Quick Page/Post Redirect Plugin is just what it says it is – quick. There is almost no additional overhead when using the plugin and you don’t need to know anything about how the WordPress permalink process works – you just install it, add a redirect and you are done.
4. What are your future plans with this plugin?
In the next revision I plan to add a jQuery interface to make it more robust. This will make it so the site admin can add any URL and have it go to any other URL. Currently the URLs are limited to those on the local domain but the change will allow redirects in the post content or any other location on the site – you would not need to go change out every link if you moved a page or if a URL is no longer available.
5. How do you monetize this plugin?
The plugin per se is not something that is intended to be used in for monetizing content. However, I have been contacted by many site owners that actually use it as an ad redirect service or in some other way and actually make money in that manner.
6. What are the different advertising / marketing methods for your plugin?
Again, the plugin is not intended for this, but I have seen it used in ways that surprise even me. Many site admins have told me that they use it to redirect links to affiliate sites and make money that way. The plugin makes it easy to do, so the possibilities are endless.
7. What advice would you give our readers if they want to develop their own plugin?
Don’t set out to create the next biggest and boldest plugin out there – focus on something you NEED. Chances are, if you need it and cannot find a plugin already out there to do it the way you need it, then there are likely MANY other people that are looking for the same thing. WordPress has so many users, that odds are, if your plugin is good, it will be received with open arms by users looking for exactly what you offer.
8. Name some of the premium websites that uses your plugin.
I don’t require users to tell me that use my plugin, but I do know of several sites that do. There are some large schools and colleges that use it, and at least one multi-million dollar online store that use it as well (although I can’t say who without permission). But it really is designed for anyone to use.
