Surfing the internet using a smart phone is growing in popularity nowadays. For business owners and developers this can mean only one thing. To engage with these potential users, creating websites and mobile apps is the way to go. For developer, this could mean upskilling in order to learn a new language. But language would cover both? Surely it would be impractical to learn .NET for website development and then Objective C for mobile development.
In doing research for this article there is actually one language that can actually cover both. This way you only have to go to one tutorial website. And that language we have discovered is jQuery. This actually is a subset of JavaScript and is used ubiquitously on the internet. But it is much more simpler to use than JavaScript. Modern WordPress themes use HTML, CSS, PHP and jQuery. And just recently, the jQuery team has developed jQuery mobile which goal is to unify the browsing experience across browsers.
If you are a web developer you would know that HMTL, CSS and JavaScript are core skills that you must possess. And since jQuery is a subset of JavaScript, then learning jQuery is easy as learning JavaScript. And an application made in jQuery can make the transition to mobile application just adding PhoneGap. This open source framework allows you to interact with smart phone device hardware i.e. GPS.
WordPress and jQuery work hand in hand beautifully. And as part of providing state of the art website tutorials, we plan to include jQuery in our curriculum in order to be of service to you. After all, a website tutorial about WordPress is not complete without JQuery, HTML, CSS and PHP. And aside from this, we will be providing tutorials on Phonegap as well in order to be a well rounded website tutorial. One of our expectations for 2012 is that mobile will be the trend for WordPress. So be sure to read our article on WordPress 2012.
